That's it, close 'em down.

I heartily join the chorus decrying the RNC's misogynistic substitution of Nancy Pelosi's surname for a vulgarity for female genitalia. It's unconscionable and un-American.

This, though? This is downright anti-American...
The RNC video, which begins with the speaker’s head in the iconic spy-series gun sight...
The Republican National Committee has created an ad which depicts the Speaker Of The House Of The United States Of America, the third highest Constitutional officer in the nation, second in the line of Presidential succession, in the sights of a gun.

This isn't the work of a random blogger with a perverse imagination and a pirated copy of Photoshop, or the work of (theoretically) some extremist hate-monger. This is the work of the Republican National Committee.

Iconic or not, depicting the Speaker's - any Speaker's, any party, any time - immanent assasination is downright treasonous.

When the RNC staff shows up Tuesday morning, they should find Secret Service padlocks on the door with paddy wagons lined up for the perps. The line of legitimacy as an American political party has faded from the RNC's rear-view mirror.

Ya think? I mean, pols are always under suspicion, but when did it become so fashionable to trust the spooks?

Not that your point addresses the issue at hand in any way. What I'm saying isn't predicated on personalities or parties.

Years ago, when the late Hunter S. Thompson spoke at some university (whose name escapes me) he reportedly said, in a typical fit of pique, "George Bush should be stomped to death." (He was speaking about 41, not 43.)

Shortly thereafter, he was visited by the Secret Service. They knowing a bit about the so-called doctor's style, shortly deduced it had been said for dramatic effect. But they also impressed upon him the need not to incite those who might be inclined to harm the then president. He agreed to not say anything similar, in upcoming appearances.

It seems that the same sort of thing should be visited upon the RNC. Yes, there's the First Amendment but it doesn't allow for calling "fire!" in a crowded building, as the saying goes. It does allow one to speak out against government.

Maybe the RNC could run an ad showing Speaker Pelosi in a fashion similar to a "wanted" poster? Of course, that might get the Secret Service even more upset, given how events unfolded that last time someone did that, in print, with the words "wanted for treason" on the ad.

Besides, if anyone should be "wanted" for treason, I would think it would be former veep Cheney; and there are many others, Democrats, Republicans and independents, who feel similarly.

I posted the last comment. I want to stand behind my words; but the new "comments" system got away from me before I could even enter my name and URL. Shaun, bring back Halo, eh?
