From the "Alternate history" file.

Sarah Palin, responding to a 2006 gubernatorial questionnaire from the arch-conservative Eagle Forum…
Q: Are you offended by the phrase "under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance? Why or why not?

SP: Not on your life. If it was good enough for the founding fathers, it is good enough for me and I'll fight in defense of our Pledge of Allegiance.
As every schoolboy (and girl) knows (or should), the pledge wasn't even a notion for over a century after the fathers founded. Officially, in fact, John McCain is older than the Pledge of Allegiance.

Hat tip to Sir Charles
